Hello! For my final post of my green week series, I will be sharing ways to upcycle and reuse old clothing! Before you throw your old clothes in the trash, try a few of these tips to reduce waste! There are also ways you can get paid by selling your old clothes! Below, I will help you find easy ways to better the environment and to maybe become a little richer.
ThredUp
Buying gently used clothes can help the environment a ton! ThredUp is the largest online consignment and thrift store. It is an easy place to buy clothing and accessories that are like new. ThredUp is also a great place to buy designer brands! They also have a Clean Out program, where they send a huge bag to put your old clothes in, that is free to ship back. If the clothes are in good enough shape, they will pay you for them! They also have a great option to have the clothes they can’t resell recycled for you!
Shop Secondhand
Buying clothes secondhand is an amazing way to reduce waste, and to help the environment. That is because you are helping reduce pollution output from new clothes being made, and preventing clothing from being placed in land fills. Shopping secondhand is also a great way to save some money! I purchased the skirt below from a store called Style Encore, it cost me under $5!
Sell your Clothing on Ebay or at a Secondhand Store
Ebay is a great platform to sell your gently used clothing on, too! Tons of people shop on Ebay everyday, and you are in charge of the price you sell your things at! Many consignment stores will also pay for your gently used clothing that is in season. Again, another great way to reduce waste and make a few bucks!
Turn Old Clothes Into New Things
Do you have clothes so old and ratty, you know no one else will buy them? Cut up old t-shirts and create cleaning cloths! Old clothes can also be turned into pillow covers, rugs, dish towels, etc. A simple Google search for “How to upcycle old clothing” will produce tons of possibilities! Some animal shelters will also take old clothing and fabric scraps.
I hope you find this helpful the next time you need to clean out your closet! There are tons of other things you can do with old clothes besides throwing them away. Buying clothes secondhand is also a great way to save the environment, and some money!
