Hello!
This week I thought it would be helpful to share some tips on how to get your waves to last, without having to re-curl your hair! I have heard other people say they only have to curl their hair once, and it lasts them three or four days! This never used to work for me, I would normally have to touch up my curls the next day after sleeping on them. I have recently added some new products and removed one to help me waves last. I use the 32mm Nume curling wand to create my waves.
The first product that has been a life changer is using a curling mousse on my wet hair after I wash it. We all know freshly washed and dried hair is the worst to curl. Mousse is super lightweight and will give your curls something to stick to. Plus it helps the curls hold and gives you volume!
To curl my hair I separate it into three or four sections starting from the bottom to the top. I highly recommend spraying your hair with a heat protectant before you curl it. This doesn’t help your curls last, but it will protect your hair from heat damage. I use the Chi brand from Ulta. Also, if you are curling your hair freshly washed, spray a little bit of dry shampoo on each section. This will trick your curling iron into thinking you have “day-two” hair, and the curls will look much better. I use the Not Your Mothers Texturizing Dry Shampoo, it is super affordable!
Now, the most important tip, DO NOT USE HAIRSPRAY! If you want your curls to last more than one day, then skip the hairspray. The formula of hairspray is too heavy and will way down those lovely curls you worked so hard to get. This was one of the main reasons my waves weren’t lasting multiple days. What I use instead is a little bit of texturizing spray. The formula of texturizing spread is more lightweight than hairspray, so it won’t weigh your hair down. But, it will still help your waves stay in place, and look more natural! I am currently using the Sexy HairSurfrider Dry Texture Spray from Ulta, and loving it.
A couple of other tips, when you release your hair from the barrel of your curling wand or iron, let it cool in your hand for a few seconds before letting go. I also don’t touch my curls for as long as possible, before shaking them out with my fingers. I do not brush out my curls, this is the kiss of death for my hair, personally. I think my hair is naturally too straight, so the brush takes away almost all of my waves. The Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo is also nice to spray on your curls the days you are trying to prolong them, since it has texturizing elements, too!
I hope these tips will help save you the hassle of having to curl your hair everyday, I really hate the “maybe I curled my hair, maybe I didn’t” look I used to get before I switched things up!
