Hello!
This week I wanted to share some beauty ideas with you that you can do at home to save some money. I have nothing against wanting to treat yourself, but if you are looking for ways to save some cash, this is for you! I tend to do these things myself, so that I can spend the money elsewhere (like on more clothes and shoes).
At Home Mani/Pedis
The first thing I choose to do myself are manicures and pedicures. I personally don’t like spending $40-$50 a pop on gel manicures. My nails grow so fast that they do not last on me, and they also really damage my natural nails. The only time I get a manicure or pedicure is for a special event or to treat myself. There are so many great options out there that can give you a fantastic manicure at home. Sally Hansen has a gel polish line that doesn’t even require a light. Some of my favorite nail polish brands are KL Polish, OPI, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure, and Essie. Here are the steps I take to get the perfect at home manicure.
- Trim and file your nails, and push back your cuticles.
- Apply a clear base coat.
- Apply two coats of your colored polish.
- Apply a top coat.
- Allow 45 mins for your nails to dry, using a hair dryer on the cool setting also helps, too.
For a pedicure, you can do the same steps. I will link some manicure and pedicure kits you can buy to use at home.
Self Tan at Home
The next thing you can do at home to save money is a self tanning routine. Spray tans at a salon vary in price. I know Sun Tan City offers spray tans for $24 a piece, and these will only last you about a week. The bottle of self tanner I use is around $30 and lasts me around three months. I am very happy with the results it gives me! It’s also a lot more convenient to do it yourself at home, you don’t have to worry about when to exfoliate and what to wear while it’s still drying. I have a whole separate post on my self tanning routine, I will link it here.
At Home Facial
Another idea to pamper yourself at home is creating your own face masks. Who doesn’t love relaxing with a face mask and a glass of wine? You can also buy affordable masks pretty much anywhere that sells beauty products. My personal favorite mask to make at home is a honey lemon juice one that is supposed to help acne and brighten your skin. All you do is squeeze half of a lemon into a bowl, add two tablespoons of honey, and then mix it up. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinsing off. I enjoy doing masks while taking a bath. Here are some other easy masks you can create at home. Also, some great masks you can buy.
DIY Exfoliant
Sugar scrubs are very popular in beauty right now. They are a great way to exfoliate your skin naturally. They are also super easy to make at home with just a few ingredients! I use a sugar scrub to exfoliate my skin before applying self tanner. Even if you don’t use self tanner, exfoliating your skin is a great way to keep it fresh and looking healthy. Here is a very simple recipe from Wellness Mama.
All you need is:
- Granulated sugar, brown or white
- Some sort of oil, like olive or coconut oil
- Essential oils if you desire
- A jar to put the scrub in
I hope this helps give you some beauty ideas you can do at home to save some money! What are some beauty ideas you do at home to save some cash? Let me know below!
